All has seemingly been quite at the home of Staffordshire based cycling outfit, Team Washo, but in reality that is not true.
On the riding front there has been a lull in competitive racing, but behind the scenes grand plans formulated since the creation of the team have finally been put into place. The small team previously with no real base or facilities to develop the team, is glad to finally announce the details of their self professed grand plans.
The Team shall as of Saturday be moving into their new home set in the scenic Staffordshire Moorlands. A high-tech purpose built cycling facility which hopefully can boost the performance of the team and attract star riders. The facilities include:
• A 25m swimming pool
• A fully functional and well equipped Gym
• A physio room
• A modern garage for the engineers
• A large sports hall
• Leisure facilities for the community
• Accommodation onsite for the rider
• Canteen and cafeteria facilities
• High-tech cycling training equipment
Added to all of this the surrounding area is perfect to hone the skills of the team, with numerous hills surrounding the facilities the team hopes that it can develop some of the top hillers in the world, something they are yet to achieve.
Now I hear you ask, how is this funded? This is the second part of the breaking news which we are delighted to deliver.
The team has agreed a deal with eco-friendly group “Green Planet”. They have kindly offered to partly fund the project on the basis that we promote their ideas and be environmentally friendly and green. The buildings are powered by a mixture of solar power and wind power, from nearby turbines. The team’s jersey shall also be changing to reflect our new links with our generous sponsor.
Added to their contribution the local council has also financially supported the project, which they believe will hugely benefit the whole community and a small proportion of the funding, has been donated by local businessmen and Team Manager Dave himself.
On a rider front the team hopes to announce the arrival of a new rider soon, but his identity is still unknown and decisions have still to be made. Hopefully though the future looks bright and with the new facilities set to open there is reason for optimism.
To finish, to promote Green Planet’s ideas “recycle the possibilities are endless”, Team Washo most certainly believes so.
